My hair is naturally brunette and I use home hair dye kits to give it a light blonde colour. But after a while, my hair becomes dull, lifeless, and the colour is faded. The colour also becomes a brassy yellow colour rather than the cool blonde tones I prefer. Therefore when I was offered the chance to try out this new product by Scott Cornwall, I couldn't wait to see if it made a difference to my hair.
The Colour Restore hair toner developed by Scott Cornwall with Anti Yellow Infusion banishes yellow and brassy tones in bleached or highlighted hair. This is a new way to control pigment levels within colour treated hair. Keratin, the hairs’ natural protein, is yellow in colour.
When hair is bleached or heavily lightened the natural pigment is stripped away and the keratin exposed, this is why hair can look ‘brassy’ or ‘yellow’. Colour Restore replenishes and returns hair colour to its former glory without the need to use a peroxide or ammonia based colourant.
I was slightly shocked to see that the hair cream was bright blue! But I have heard in the past that the blue actually neutralises orange hair tones, so then I was excited to see the results. Using a concentration of complex violet tone, Colour Restore Iced Platinum counteracts yellow or brassy tones to create crisp, cool, pure white blonde shades.
Stage 1: Towel dried, shampooed hair. | Stage 2: Cream applied and left for 25 mins. | Stage 3: Hair rinsed with warm water and towel dried.
It is very simple to use, you first need to wash your hair with a clear (not cream) shampoo, and then towel dry it. Then you apply the cream and leave in for up to 25 minutes for deep tonal results.
Here are the before and after photos. You can see from the before picture that my hair was slightly orange toned and a bit dull. However, after using the Colour Restore toner, my hair looks brighter and blonder. You can see the bottom half of my hair, which was highlighted over a year ago, has lightened much more. But since then I haven't been using peroxide highlights or bleach, but just a light blonde hair dye kit. The Colour Restore toner didn't affect the dyed hair as much as the highlighted hair, but overall has brightened it all.
Overall I would highly recommend this toner to anyone who has bleached or highlighted hair and wants to revitalise the lighter tones. This hair toner costs £11.99, and is available exclusively from Boots.

ReplyDeleteThis looks great, I may seek it out.
ReplyDeleteI've always used purple shampoo on my bleached blonde hair. It sounds as if you leave it on for a long time. I buy a professional purple shampoo for £7.00 and the max you leave it on for is 5 mins. I'm afraid home kits will always leave you orangey or yellow. In my view the salon is the best place to go, unless you dare to mess around with bleach at home. It is more expensive but when I can't afford it I will simply go a darker blonde at home!

ReplyDeleteWow the difference is really apparant. I've bleached my ends twce and put ash blonde dyes over but it still has a gingery tinge. I've been using purple shampoo too so maybe something like this would be good!
ReplyDeleteI bought this last night as I had ombre hair done at the hairdressers and she turned it a brassy colour :-( It's not made a massive difference but I'm going to give it another go, if anyone has any other suggestions please shout up :-)!
