Cake Decorating Magazine Issue 17 - Textured Rolling Pin.. ♥

In this weeks Cake Decorating magazine (in stores now!) it comes with a free textured mini rolling pin. This issue is number 17, and it retails for £2.99. I picked mine up from Tesco.

The magazine this week features how to create sugared blooms, which requires a paste to be made from sugar and egg whites. It gives real petals a crystallised look, and they are edible! I think this is a really nice touch and would be perfect for a feminine birthday cake or for Mothers Day.

The magazine also shows you how to make this textured 2 tier peacock cake. However, the rolling pin that comes with the magazine is not the one used to make this cake.

There is also a page with tips for beginners on how to do creative embossing on fondant for cakes and cupcakes. It details the different types; fabric, stencil and lace. I have never tried embossing but would love to practice with lace!

This is the free gift, it's a mini rolling pin with what looks like a wavy texture. However I can't find a picture of how this would look on a cake. This pattern is not featured in the magazine at all which is a bit strange! Why give a free gift that isn't used in the magazine?

Next weeks free gift in issue 18 is a serrated cone tool which can be used to create sugar flowers and add detail to fondant decorations.

Does anyone else collect these magazines? I pick one up if the free gift looks good! I won't get next weeks issue as I already have a set of plastic tools.

  2. Really wanted it with texture roll! Will tell my uncle to buy for me.
After bought 13, 15 & 16 last weekend when was in London for weekend.
Saw them the advert on 16 issue.

I skip issue 18 like you - not a fan of tool. I'm more fan of fondant, texture & cutters.

    Thank you for sharing.

  3. Don't suppose you want to get rid of issue 17 (including free gift) I have collected every issue but have 17 missing - lost it on the way home from the supermarket! I have recently had spine surgery and have to go back for more so am looking for a hobby where I can sit down so I started the collection. I don't want to ask the company because I have noted on line that other people have found them to be totally inefficient eg they are charging people wrong amounts, sending out wrong number magazines etc. I am willing to pay a decent amount (say about £5 ?) If you can't help - any ides what I can
    do?

Thank you very much for your help.

    Kind regards.

  5. think the peacock cake is made by using the rolling pin, the vertical strips are made with it
