I’ve only ever had a spray tan once before, by Fake Bake at Debenhams (see post here). I liked the outcome of that experience so I was looking forward to it again. I arrived at Bannatynes and was taken to the little spray tan room and I put on my paper panties. I had exfoliated using Soap and Glory Flake Away the night before. My beauty therapist was very kind and helpful, and then she started spraying me. After a few minutes the ‘sprayer’ seemed to stop working and we had a bit of a kerfuffle having someone to come and fix it, but then we carried on.
Once it was all finished, I did feel a bit like I was very ‘over done’ especially on my chest and face. It was so layered that it was actually rolling off my skin, and it wasn’t very blended in, it looked like I had loads of little brown freckles! I must say I wasn’t very pleased when I first looked at myself in the mirror, and I quickly began wiping off the excess with baby wipes trying to even it out around my chest when I got home. My legs looked great though, although the soles of my feet turned very dark brown! See my first photo to see how I looked after a quick fix-up. I was too exasperated to take photo’s as soon as I got home! I’m no spray tan expert so I don’t know if this is all normal.
After I had calmed down a bit a few hours later, after getting very stressed that I looked like an umpa lumpa, I had a quick cool shower which seemed to wash away the extra orange-ness. It looked uber-tangoed but at least it was even. I moisturised that night before bed, and then had another cool shower in the morning, and I was then much happier! The colour had toned down and it was all very even and blended.. phew! I was told it would last up to 10 days, and it probably lasted me about 5 or 6. Once the colour had settled I thought it looked great! Day 3 was probably my favourite shade, it looked like I had spent my weekend in the sunshine!
My skin tone is a bit olive anyway and it was a pretty big shade jump, so I would be cautious of getting a spray tan done if you are very fair. But if you want a little boost or have a special occasion, then I recommend getting it done a few days beforehand, and not on the day! And make sure that you exfoliate beforehand, and moisturise afterwards.
Overall I am pleased with the results of my spray tan, and I have even booked myself in for another in July. I just hope next time they’re not so heavy handed around my chest! The spray tan at Bannatynes cost £15.
Here’s an OOTD post from ‘Day 2’, which was the boiling hot day that I visted Oxford, so I wore a beach dress! Bargain at only £6.
