My big sister is expecting a little baby boy in less than 3 weeks! Which means I will be an Auntie again, which is very exciting! Her friends very kindly threw her a little baby shower gathering, and I made the cake for the party.
Whilst I am fairy experienced at making and decorating cupcakes, I am not so good at making full sized cakes, and I am pretty terrible at icing covering them. I decided to try and keep it simple, covering it in a plain white icing, and then using some baby blue for the decorations. The cake was a Victoria Sponge cake, with a traditional vanilla sponge, with strawberry jam and buttercream icing inside. I also crumbcoated the cake in buttercream as thats what the experts recommend!
I am obsessed with buttons and bows! So I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to try and make a large ‘Tiffany style’ fondant bow. After watching numerous YouTube tutorials, this is my attempt at the bow. It was a very frustrating procedure! But in the end it turned out okay. I also used a button mould to make little dainty buttons, and I also experimented with alphabet embossers, embossing the baby’s name ‘Joseph’ on a couple of buttons. I then added some edible pearl decorations, and tiny silver dragees in the buttons, and wrapped it with a polka dot bow.
My sister loved the cake, as did the party guests! And even if I say so myself, it was very tasty, and overall I am very pleased with the end result 🙂 Practise makes perfect!
As one of my sisters baby shower gifts, I made this name frame, which started off its life as this old Victoria Plub picture. I made one of these for my little niece, in floral pinks, a while ago which you can see here, along with a tutorial. My niece and sister loved the one I made for her, so requested one for the baby. Of course, I did this one in blues, using different paper patterns, can you see Piglet in the ‘O’? I’m very pleased with this DIY project!
My sisters friend made her this baby board, and we all wrote messages for baby Joseph!
I also bought these little gifts for my sister and nephew. Baby booties are so cute!
His crib is all ready for him to arrive in a few weeks….
