would assume is in part due to TV shows like the Great British Bake Off.
I was really surprised when I received it with how big it is! It’s a massive 248 pages long, and each page is filled with bright photos and interesting content. The book has step by step instructions on how to make and decorate celebration cakes, cupcakes and cake pops. Decorating techniques include piping, stencilling, cutting and painting, as well as how to create flowers, hand-model characters and more. There are also 20 unique projects on how to make novelty and more elegant cakes, including a children’s pirate-ship, and a filigree-piped wedding cake.
I like the simplicity of the book, and how it features the basic skills as well as the more intricate techniques needed for cake decorating. I don’t class myself as a beginner, but I’m certainly no expert, and I think this book is perfect for me. I’ve discovered lots of new things which I can’t wait to try, as well as finding out the ‘proper’ way of doing things I’d already experimented with. Basic steps for beginners show you how to make and use a range of icings and coverings, including buttercream, royal icing, flower paste and marzipan, and also how to create the perfect canvas for decorating. More complicated things such as how to model a fondant rose and painting are shown with step by step easy to follow colourful photos. I think this book would suit everyone from enthusiastic cake decorating beginners to more experienced cake decorators.
