I say plans, but I haven’t actually got around to booking anything for 2018 just yet! My boyfriend Gavin has just started a new job which means he no longer has to work weekends (yay!) so this means now we can go on weekends away. Yippee! Once he’s all settled into his new workplace we can both look at booking some annual leave for a proper holiday too!
The only down side to this is that Gavin used to work for TUI so we would get an amazing discount on holidays which we won’t be able to get any more. So I might need to do more saving for our holidays!
Since the New Year I’ve been spending hours researching new places to go and looking into destinations I’d love to visit later this year. There are so many cool, unusual places and different types of accommodation that you can book including Belize vacation rentals and luxurious private villas. I’d love to do something a bit different like that one day. I’ve also had my eye on a Mediterranean cruise too, the itineraries of the cruise that go around Italy and the Greek islands sound amazing. But I think that might need to wait until another year! Here are my travel hopes for this year:
London is one of my favourite places to visit for a night or two at any time of year. It’s only 40 minutes away on the train but there’s so much to see and do that you can easily spend the whole weekend there! As much as I love a day trip it’s great to be able to wake up in the city and stay late without having to worry about catching trains or carrying bags around. Also I’m desperate to visit the famous pink ‘blogger’ locations such as Trevor Square and of course Peggy Porschen! I can’t believe I’ve never been before!
We still haven’t decided where we want to go on our big holiday this year just yet. I want to go back to Mexico or perhaps try the Dominican Republic but we haven’t been able to settle on picking a hotel yet. It’s so hard to find somewhere that we both agree on within our budget (plus, Gavin is very picky about the hotels he stays in!). Gavin is keen to go to Jamaica as he would love to stuff his face with unlimited jerk chicken all week! I just want somewhere with a nice beach and good food, but it would be nice to go somewhere with good excursions and local things to see.
Terri and I have been discussing taking a little city break to Prague this year to visit our Tereza since she moved to the Czech Republic! I don’t know too much about Prague but it looks like a very beautiful city with so much history and culture to see. It also looks so much more reasonably priced than cities such as Rome and Paris with cheap accommodation, transport, food and drink. Top of my list would be to visit Prague Castle, The Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square and learn more about the Gothic buildings and Medieval history.
I’ve been thinking about booking a trip to the Cotswolds since last summer but never got the chance to do it last year. But I think it would be so lovely to go when the weather is warmer, and I’d love to hire out a cute little Air BnB cottage for a long weekend. Although I’ve visited bits of the Cotswolds in the past, I’d love to Bourton on the Water again and also visit some new places. Broadway Tower, Stow on the Wold, Burford and Chipping Campden are definitely on my list! I would just love to do lots of walking, exploring, and stopping off at lovely old pubs for lunch and a drink!
Wells next the Sea
I’d never even heard of Wells next the Sea before until Gavin mentioned it to me as he used to visit when he was little. It’s a little seaside town on the North Norfolk Coast in East Anglia. It has narrow streets lined with quaint shops, tea rooms as well as a sandy beach with some cute little colourful beach huts on the sand! I wanted to visit to go camping but Gavin wasn’t keen on that idea, so perhaps a one night hotel stay will be the best option! We’d have to book when we know it’s going to be a nice summers day though.. I don’t fancy the seaside in the rain!
You may have noticed that a lot of these places are UK based, but to be honest exploring the UK is my favourite! There’s always so many places to discover and there’s so much to see in the different towns and cities. Although I’ve visited Cambridge a few times in the past, I’d love to spend the whole day there mooching around and I’ve always wanted to try punting along the river! There are so many shops and restaurants in Cambridge too, making it a great place for a day trip, as it’s only about an hours drive away.
Do you have any recommendations of places I should visit, in the UK or overseas?
