Life in Instagram: July 2018

July is my birthday month so I had lots of fun stuff planned to keep me busy! I have been absolutely loving this heatwave and I don’t want it to end. I wouldn’t mind if I never saw another winter ever again! July has been such an amazing month weather-wise, with weeks of sunshine and temperatures well over 30°C some days. It’s been like being on holiday!

So here’s what I got up to last month…

One of the best things about summer is picnics! I’d been wanting to go for a little picnic for a while and we finally had a sunny afternoon where we had nothing planned, so I decided to pack up the picnic hamper and set off to a local park.

This gorgeous traditional style picnic basket was gifted to me from Wayfair so that I could enjoy a few romantic picnics over summer! I love the vintage style antique washed willow wicker. It has 2 closing lids and contains everything you need for a sunny afternoon picnic including: 4 x Wine Glasses, 4 x Porcelain Plates, 4 x Cutlery Sets, and 1 x Cool Bag. The basket has sections for everything so that it all stays nice and organised, and there’s plenty of space in there for food and drink too.

We packed up a few snacks including baguettes, cheese, ham, crisps, strawberries, sausage rolls, mini sausages and a bottle of orange juice. All of that plus my little cloth vintage picnic blanket fit into the basket with plenty of room to spare! My top tips for a successful picnic are: remember to bring a plastic carrier bag for rubbish, pack an ice block in your hamper to keep things cool, and have plenty of napkins handy!

Lately I’ve become a little bit obsessed with buying new shower gels in funky flavours. Imperial Leather do some great ones at the moment! As well as the Cosmic Unicorn and Mermazing ones above, I also have Cherry Bakewell, Marshmallow, Fruit Salad, and Flamingle! They’re only £1 each in Boots (on offer for 2 for £1.80 at the mo!) and they all smell amazing. I’m also trying out the Beauticology Tropical Cocktail and Frosted Sprinkles shower cremes too. Yum!

Since I first had my gel nails done back in May for my holiday, I’ve become a gel nails convert. I’m not sure I will ever go back to normal nail polish again. I love having gel nails done as it keeps my nails protected for up to 4 weeks and lets them grow without getting broken and without me being tempted to bite them. Plus, I’m lazy so I like not having to paint my nails every few days myself! This month I went for this gorgeous duck egg blue colour, which also happens to be the colour of my car!

These are some of the gorgeous presents I received for my birthday this year! I was totally overwhelmed by how lovely my friends, family and colleagues were. They clearly know me well as everything is pretty and pink! Some of my favourite pressies include the Ted Baker cat bag, the big bottle of pink gin, and the giant flamingo that my boss bought for me to keep on my balcony!

I’ve had a few new additions to my flat lately (not just the flamingo!) including my new TV in the bedroom. We had a small black TV in the bedroom before but Gavin wanted a bigger one, and I wanted a white one, so we managed to find this pretty decent 32 inch one from Argos which fits in just perfectly. And I no longer have to see the big black eyesore!

Gavin treated me to a surprise birthday dinner in the evening once I’d finished work on my actual birthday. We went to a lovely local Italian restaurant in Woburn called Fratelli, and I had a little Italian feast! I absolutely love calamari and this was some of the freshest, yummiest calamari I’d ever had. I also really enjoyed my lasagna (and all the wine too!).

I bought myself a little pre-birthday treat in the Amazon Prime Day sale. This bottle of Rose d’Argent Strawberry Gin was reduced to only £14 (usually £20) and I couldn’t wait to try it. It tastes just like strawberry laces! It’s so yummy on ice mixed with lemonade. 100% recommend!

I also had a little birthday trip to the Kent coast and stayed in this gorgeous shepherd’s hut. Blog post coming soon!
