I can’t believe that the UK has now been in lockdown since March! I’ve been keeping myself busy (see what I’ve been up to here) but It’s crazy how quickly this has become the new ‘normal’. I am certainly looking forward to all the shops, pubs and restaurants reopening and returning to work. Lockdown has affected everybody’s daily life and things have been very different to usual.
One of the changes for us is that we usually go out to eat quite a lot (I’m a lazy cook) so we’ve been having to find alternatives to where we would usually eat. We have our favourite restaurants in Milton Keynes that we tend to stick to, but due to lockdown we obviously can’t go out to eat like we usually would. But we’ve been lucky enough to discover plenty of new favourite takeaways in Milton Keynes, as well as a few sweet treats too!
So here’s my list of some of my newly discovered best takeaways in Milton Keynes:
King’s Comfort Food – Southern Street Food
Keyon from King’s Comfort Food in Milton Keynes has created a new Quarantine Takeaway menu offering a selection of delicious Southern street food options. We were kindly gifted a selection of the menu including fried chicken burgers (Gavin’s favourite!), chicken strips, JD wings, mac and cheese and BBQ ribs.
I’m a big fan of ribs and these were melt in your mouth with a very tasty BBQ sauce, and Gavin loved the fried chicken! The food was really good quality, very tasty & had clearly been made with a passion for southern food. Big portions too.. we had plenty leftover! If you’re looking for freshly cooked food in Milton Keynes that’s a bit different to your usual takeaway I really recommend Kings Comfort Food. It’s great value for money too!
Sayan Sri – Sri Lankan Takeaway in Milton Keynes
Sayan Sri is a family run Sri Lankan catering business in Milton Keynes which offers authentic gourmet Sri Lankan cuisine. Sayan Sri was founded by Srinihila (Mum) and Sayanthan (son) last year and together they have over 45 years cooking experience. They have recently adapted their catering business to now offer a takeaway service which includes a large variety of traditional Sri Lankan and South Indian dishes.
We were gifted a lovely meal and I was really excited to try Sayan Sri’s food as I’d never tried Sri Lankan before! Their menu is vast with lots of choice and as a newbie I wasn’t sure what to choose. But with a few helpful recommendations we decided on the vegetable samosas, mutton spring rolls, chicken biriyani and chicken noodles. I also requested that everything was made mild without too much spice which was no problem at all.
We especially enjoyed the chicken biriyani which is basmati rice layered with chicken and topped with a boiled egg. The samosas were also a hit – bursting with flavour and spices without being too spicy!

KemiKooks – Caribbean Takeaway Food in Milton Keynes
Kemi has recently launched her Milton Keynes takeaway food business KemiKooks which offers a small but tasty menu featuring some delicious Caribbean food including traditional Jamaican jerk chicken. The Kemikooks takeaway menu includes either juicy chicken wings (Hawaiian chilli or BBQ), slow cooked oxtail, jerk chicken, or crunchy salmon and prawn bites. Each meal is only £10 and comes with sides of rice (seasoned or rice and peas), mac and cheese, and coleslaw or cornbread.
When we visited Jamaica a couple of years ago we fell in love with jerk chicken and rice and peas but we’ve never found anywhere that did it properly in the UK. But we were thrilled to try the KemiKooks jerk chicken which was very close to what we had in Jamaica, and I also loved the juicy BBQ chicken wings! My favourite part though was probably the mac and cheese which was perfect! Nice portion sizes too, and I loved the slice of sprinkle cake!

Bertie Bakes – Treat Boxes

Bites of Goodness – Afternoon Tea
You guys know how much I LOVE afternoon tea right? So I was thrilled when Katie from Bites of Goodness offered to deliver me a cute little box full of homemade afternoon tea treats to try.
The box included freshly baked scones, clotted cream, raspberry jam, millionaire shortbread, lemon drizzle cake (my favourite!), rocky road and Galaxy hot chocolate (perfect for me as I don’t drink tea!). We sat down to enjoy it one afternoon using my Cath Kidston China & it was all so lovely. The lemon drizzle cake was sweet and zesty just how I like it and the scones were nice & fresh.
