My birthday was a couple of weeks ago now, but I thought I’d do a little run down blog post of all the things I did! As I’m getting old now there was no major party or anything, but I had a really lovely few days with colleagues, family and friends.
My actual birthday was on a Saturday and therefore my ‘work birthday’ was on the Friday! In true office tradition I brought in some cake for the whole building to feast upon. I brought in home made Victoria Sponge cake and a lemon drizzle cake. Both of which seemed to be very popular and as I was a piggy I tried one of each.. whoops!
I work in a little office along with 9 other girls and they had decorated my desk, each gave me a birthday card and then I got a Cath Kidston gift card as my pressie! You can imagine how thrilled I was and immediately spent it before the summer sale ended on a few little treats for myself.
I chose to wear my favourite Emily and Fin cloud print dress on my work birthday.. it’s just so sweet! It’s always nice to dress up a little in something special on your birthday.
I hadn’t specifically asked for anything for my birthday (except the Funeral for a Friend tee) so I was very grateful to receive some lovely gifts from everyone! I have been in awe of these snazzy four wheeled suitcases that you see at airports for a while, so my parents kindly bought me this gorgeous purple one which is the perfect size for a cabin bag.
I also received the new Cath Kidston Teatime recipe book (this looks SO good!), some make up, a cupcake handbag, vouchers, and lots of other cute little bits! And so many adorable cards. You can tell who really knows you by checking out what birthday card they give you…
On the Friday night I went up to Stoke to visit my dearest Terri Lowe and her crazy pal. We had a standard night out involving lots of wine, cocktails and Snapchat stories which is always lots of fun!
In the morning we *cough.. Terri* were pretty hungover but by the time lunchtime came around I was starving so we head out to our favourite burger joint The Exchange in Hanley. They do the most amazinggg burgers which you can customize, so I had a beef burger on a brioche bun with garlic mayo and blue cheese… mmmm!
My yummy birthday cake.. traditional Victoria Sponge cake (what else?!) with fresh strawberries.
The day after my birthday I actually held a stall at our local carboot sale. I was trying to get rid of a lot of my old clothes and I made £80+ so I did reasonably well, although not as well as previous years! In between selling though I also went on a little bargain hunt of my own and picked up a few little bits..
The floral vintage style glass bottle was 20p, the brand new Soap and Glory minis were 30p each, the big metal heart tealight holder was 50p, as was the Next floral teacup and saucer. I also bought a whole vintage floral tea set for only £4 including x4 teacups with saucers and cake plates, a sugar bowl, and a large plate!
I also received these beautiful birthday flowers courtesy of Beards and Daisies. This is called the Hey Now bouquet and it is absolutely beautiful! It featured a selection of large headed roses in various shades of pink, scented freesia and green bell sprigs.
Pink roses are my absolute favourite and I’ve kept them in my bedroom in this lilac polka dot jug for over a week now. It’s amazing how something so small can bring such a smile to your face!
One of my lovely friends took me for afternoon tea for my birthday in a little local teashop called Cakestand and Crumb in Ampthill. If you live nearby this is a must to visit! We enjoyed our afternoon tea consisting of homemade sandwiches, fresh fruit scones with clotted cream and jam, and a selection of little cakes. The staff there were really sweet and even put some candles on the desserts for me as they noticed it was my birthday! I love that everything is served on vintage crockery, and they have an amazing glass cake cabinet!
And then the final part of my birthday week (I like to drag my celebrations out a bit…) I went to see Don Broco (again) in our hometown of Bedford. I always love it when they come back to Bedford as its such a little venue and it’s so much better than seeing them in a big place. I went on the Friday night to see them perform the whole of their old album Priorities and then on Saturday night they played the newer album Automatic. So good!
