Best Date Ideas in Milton Keynes 2026

As a local Milton Keynes blogger, I thought I’d share with you some of my favourite date ideas in MK for 2026. Whether you’re planning a first date, anniversary, cheap date night or something unusual to do as a couple, there are loads of options beyond dinner and the cinema. I’ve tried all of these places myself, so I’ve rounded up my favourite date ideas in Milton Keynes, including outdoor adventures, cosy cafés, competitive activities, romantic restaurants and things to do when it’s raining.

The obvious (some might say boring!) Milton Keynes date ideas include choices like going to the cinema or out for a Nandos, but I thought I’d share some more interesting date ideas in Milton Keynes. 1. Go for a romantic dinner

A romantic dinner is always an excellent choice for a date night! There are plenty of lovely restaurants around Milton Keynes that create the right atmosphere for an evening together – from elegant fine dining to cosy bistros.

2. Go for a coffee date

Sometimes, the simplest dates are the most meaningful – and a coffee date is a nice, low-pressure way to spend time together. Whether you’re meeting for a first date or just fancy a cosy date, Milton Keynes has so many charming cafés to choose from with plenty of independent spots.

3. Hire E-scooters

If you’re looking for a more energetic date idea, Milton Keynes was selected as the first place in the UK to launch a full-scale trial of e-scooters which you can hire. To take a trip, simply download an e-scooter app on your smartphone and then use the map to locate your nearest scooter.

They’re all over Milton Keynes so you should easily be able to find a couple so that you can go for a fun scootering date! The scooters go up to 15mph so they’re quite speedy, but they’re so much fun. Gav and I love using them when the weather is nice – we enjoy going to Campbell Park or around Willen Lake, but there’s plenty of places to explore. Definitely one of my favourite date ideas in Milton Keynes!

4. Treat Yourself to Dessert

An excellent Milton Keynes date idea if your date has a bit of a sweet tooth! Why not visit one of the many dessert bars in Milton Keynes? I absolutely love these places! Milton Keynes has a few; there’s Kaspas on 12th Street, Creams Cafe in Xscape, or independently run Treat Street at MK1 Leisure Park. They all serve a huge range of desserts, milkshakes and ice creams.

Their menus include waffles, crepes, and ice cream sundaes with a crazy variety of toppings. I always love getting a hot cookie dough dessert and an Oreo milkshake! Their desserts are big enough to share too, so it makes quite a cute and low budget date idea. Plus, Treat Street at MK1 has a full beer, wine and cocktail menu to enjoy too! You can also order online for home delivery via UberEats or JustEat if you want to have a cosy date night at home.

5. Visit one of the Milton Keynes Parks

During lockdown we discovered so many nice parks and green spaces in Milton Keynes which would make perfect date locations! You could take a picnic or just go for a walk or even a bike ride – we love doing both! Even if it’s not sunshine weather, you can get wrapped up all cosy in your jumpers and scarves and go for a cute date walk in Milton Keynes.

My favourite park for a walk is around Lodge Lake near Loughton – there’s plenty of birdlife to spot such as herons, swans and little grebes, all of which we saw over summer – we even saw a massive fish leap out of the water! Other favourites include Campbell Park, Loughton Valley Linear Park and the Teardrops Lakes (where you can find the stepping stones across the water). The Parks Trust do an amazing job of maintaining and taking care of the parks in Milton Keynes, so everywhere is very clean and looked after – perfect for a romantic stroll! And don’t forget to pay a visit to the famous concrete cows too!

6. Try out some Street Food

We’re so lucky in Milton Keynes that we have so many amazing independent food businesses, including some fab street food vendors. EAT Street MK is a pop up street food event which is held monthly at either York House in Stony Stratford or Bradwell Abbey. The menu changes every month, but vendors bring a variety of high-quality street food. You can also find street food vendors at MK Biergarten on Street Food Fridays and at various other events throughout the year.

7. Visit Willen Lake

Willen Lake is SO much more than just a lake these days. They have so much going on around there for couples as well as families. The 36-metre tall Milton Keynes observation wheel gives beautiful views across the lake and onto the city and would certainly make a unique date idea in Milton Keynes, and they often have a fun fair running too.

For the more adventurous there’s so many different activities at Willen Lake including wakeboarding and Treetop Extreme. During the summer Willen Lake is also home to the Aqua Parcs inflatable water assault course! But if you fancy something a bit more chilled, you could also hire a boat, including one of these cute flamingo pedalos! There’s also the Lakeside Pub or the new Willen Dragon pub where you can stop for a drink and a bite to eat. You could also stop by the coffee shop for a drink which has some great views across the lake.

8. Get adventurous at Go Ape!

Just outside of Milton Keynes is the beautiful village of Woburn which is home to the Go Ape! high ropes course as well as the Safari Park. I absolutely LOVE going to Go Ape, it’s such good fun and quite an adrenaline rush.

Not for the faint hearted, the adventurous treetop trek course is quite challenging. You have to be pretty brave to do the free-fall Tarzan Swings, climb up to the 25m platforms, and to ride the super-fast zip lines – but once you’ve put any fears aside I promise you’ll love it! Probably….

The course will take you 2-3 hours and once the day’s adventure fun is over, you can head the picturesque Georgian village of Woburn and relax in one of the cosy pubs or restaurants.

9. Go on a ghost walk together

If you’re looking for something a little different, maybe go on a date with a touch of mystery! How about visiting some of the most spooky and haunted places in Milton Keynes? It’s romantic, exciting, and just spooky enough to make your heart race. You can visit haunted pubs, ruined churches, and places with secret histories.

Bonus: it gives you a built-in excuse to stop off for a drink or dessert afterward, and compare notes on what you both felt or saw.

10. A romantic cooking date

If you’re looking for a fun, hands-on date idea that’s a little different, a cooking class is such a lovely way to spend time together, and In Cucina con Sofia is a brilliant local option. She holds regular cooking classes in and around Milton Keynes, so you can learn to make everything from bread to Japanese food! I went to one of Sofia’s pasta-making classes and it was such an insightful experience.

She’s incredibly passionate about cooking and teaching, and you can really feel how much she loves sharing her knowledge. The class was relaxed, interactive and perfect for couples. It’s so lovely to create something from scratch together and then sit down to enjoy the pasta you’ve made. It’s a great date idea if you want something memorable that isn’t just the usual dinner out.

11. Play Crazy Golf

Crazy golf is always a great option for a laid back but fun date. There are now four crazy golf courses in Milton Keynes – the Mr Mulligans indoor golf course on 12th Street (the Theatre District), Volcano Falls inside Xscape, Dinosaur Valley at Furzton Lake, and the Pirate Golf outdoor course at Abbey Hill Golf Centre near Two Mile Ash.

Gavin and I visited the 18-hole Pirate Golf course over summer and we had so much fun! Each hole is different, some have unexpected challenges, and the surroundings are quite pretty with lots of water features and greenery. It doesn’t break the bank and it’s a really fun afternoon activity if you want to spend some time together outdoors and have a laugh! An excellent Milton Keynes date idea for some fun!

The 24-hole indoor Mr Mulligan course is great if you fancy more of a ‘grown up’ night out or if the weather isn’t nice enough to be outside. It’s open until late and there’s a decent bar, plus two different 12-hole courses to choose from. You can also buy food, and the decor is pretty cool with lots of UV lights and quirky glow in the dark features! If you’re looking for a fun date in Milton Keynes, then this would be a great idea! We had a great time here one date night!

 

12. Have a night in with a takeaway

If you’re looking for a cosy, relaxed date night without leaving the house, why not treat yourselves to a takeaway? Whether you’re into curry, burgers, Caribbean flavours or something sweet, Milton Keynes has a brilliant range of options to choose from.

13. Go bowling

Break away from the usual dinner or walk and make it a playful night out at Lane7 bowling alley in Midsummer Place. This entertainment-packed venue is perfect for a date full of laufghs, friendly competition, and good vibes. Challenge each other on the high-energy bowling lanes, try your hand at the roller skating rink, or enjoy some arcade games, darts, ping-pong, and even karaoke. When you need a break, grab a bite to eat or a cocktail from their on-site bar. Whether it’s a first date or a regular night out, Lane7 offers a fun, lively alternative to the usual dinner-and-drinks evening.

14. Pottery painting

If you fancy a date that’s a bit different (and you get a cute keepsake at the end), book a pottery painting session at Social Pottery in Woburn Sands. It’s such a relaxing, wholesome date idea, and you can be as competitive or as creative as you like. You’ll choose a blank ceramic piece to paint (there are 300+ to pick from), then spend a couple of hours painting it together with all the supplies provided. When you’re done, the studio glazes and kiln-fires it so it’s durable and food-safe, and it’s ready to collect around 14 days later.

15. Go for Afternoon Tea

For a classic and romantic date idea, enjoy afternoon tea at Horwood House, a beautiful country house hotel set in the Buckinghamshire countryside in Little Horwood, just outside Milton Keynes (around a 15–20 minute drive). Surrounded by gardens and elegant interiors, it’s the perfect setting for a relaxed afternoon together.

Take your time enjoying a traditional afternoon tea with freshly made sandwiches, homemade cakes, delicate sweet treats and warm scones served with clotted cream and jam. With its cosy interiors, beautiful surroundings and peaceful atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to slow down and enjoy a memorable afternoon together.

Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary, planning a first date or simply looking for something a little different to do as a couple, Horwood House makes a great choice for a romantic day out.
