Cats bring so much joy into a home… but if you have indoor cats, you’ll know that litter trays are the least glamorous part of pet ownership. With two ragdoll cats, Maxi and Margo, litter scooping had become a constant chore – until we discovered the Litter-Robot 4 by Whisker. And honestly, it’s completely changed our day-to-day life.

Having Multiple Cats Means Constant Scooping

Anyone with more than one cat will relate: even with multiple trays, you’re still scooping several times a day just to keep things fresh and odour-free. It’s messy, time-consuming, and not exactly something you want to deal with after a long day.

The Litter-Robot 4 promised an end to all of that and it absolutely delivered. In the last 6 months, it’s saved us from 1,504 litter scoops, which is… wild when you actually think about it.

How the Litter-Robot 4 Works

One of the things I love most about the Litter-Robot 4 is how clever yet simple it is to use. Once a cat has finished using the litter tray and exited, the unit automatically begins its cleaning cycle. The globe gently rotates, separating the waste from the clean litter. The clean litter is returned to the tray, ready for the next visit, while the waste is dropped into a fully enclosed drawer below.

The drawer is sealed to contain odours, so there’s no lingering smell. When it’s full, you simply slide the drawer out, empty it, and pop it back in. No scooping. No mess. No stress.

How Maxi & Margo Took to The Litter Robot

I’ll admit, I was a little worried about how the cats would react. Ragdolls can be quite particular, and introducing a new (and slightly futuristic-looking) litter tray felt like a gamble. Thankfully, those worries were completely unnecessary. Maxi and Margo started using it straight away with no hesitation at all – we hadn’t even finished setting it up before they hopped straight in!

The Litter-Robot 4 is quiet, spacious, and comfortable, which I think really helps cats feel at ease.

Odour Control & Easy Cleaning

What really impressed me was the odour control. The enclosed waste drawer does an excellent job of keeping smells contained — a huge plus for indoor cats.

Cleaning is also easy – aside from emptying the drawer when needed, the unit itself is simple to wipe down and maintain. It feels like a set-and-forget solution compared to traditional litter trays.

The  Downside: It’s Big

Let’s talk about the only real downside – the size. The Litter-Robot 4 is big. Like… properly enormous. It also needs to be positioned near a plug socket, which made finding the right place for it in our home a bit tricky. While it’s great at controlling smells, I still didn’t want it sitting in a room we use all the time (the living room was a firm no).

After trying a few locations, we came up with a brilliant idea: putting it inside the utility room cabinet.

I removed one cupboard door and took out everything out. Luckily, there’s already a plug socket in there, so it works perfectly. The Litter-Robot fits just inside, tucked neatly out of sight. We also have an air purifier in the utility room, which helps keep everything feeling extra fresh. Now it’s completely out of the way and doesn’t disrupt the look of our home.

Is the Litter-Robot 4 Worth It?

At £749, there’s no denying it’s an investment. The Litter-Robot 4 isn’t cheap, but I think it’s 100% worth it — especially if you have more than one cat. Less scooping, less smell, happier cats, and a cleaner home? Definitely worth it. With all the time we’ve saved scooping, we have more time for snuggles!
