This ‘Cake Decorating’ magazine was first released about a year ago, with the same free gifts (not sure if it was the same content). I tried so hard to get my hands on a copy but they were flying off the shelves! So I was very glad when I found out that this week they were re-releasing the magazine again with the same freebies, for the same bargain special price.
You can read this issue of the magazine online for free here.
The magazine is simply called ‘Cake Decorating’ and the free gifts it came with were a pink gingham printed cardboard cupcake stand, a pot of pink edible glitter, and 2 different sized butterfly cutters. I bought this magazine because I usually pay £2-3 for the glitter dust alone.
The content of the magazine is very simple, great for a beginner. I liked the article on how to make and decorate sugar cookies using the butterfly cutters. I have never made biscuits before so I think I will have to give them a go soon! The way of icing them (called ‘flood filling’) looks very simple and effective, and the magazine also has the cookie recipe, which contains very basic, easy to find ingredients.
These are the lovely free gifts.. all pink! I will probably use the cake stand for my niece’s birthday party coming up next month, as I have plenty of cake stands of my own!
The magazine would be great for beginners or for baking with kids, as it contains lots of step by step photos, but the instructions and methods are very, very basic, but good to know. I assume as each issue goes on, it will get more complex with harder recipies and techniques. But this issue covers the basics on the different types of icing, and cupcake recipies.
I bought this issue from my local Tesco earlier this week, but I have seen that they’ve put out an announcement saying that the stock for issue 1 is now sold out nationwide, therefore they have brought the release of issue 2 forward by 6 days! They are planning on getting new stock for issue 1 out soon (according to their Twitter), so keep your eye out! Or you can always subscribe online to receive every issue here.
In issue 2 (increased price of £2.99) you will receive 3 icing nozzles, 2 piping bags, and 2 couplers.

Oh my mums just signed up for this…I think she could start a cake shop the amount of cake decorating equipment she owns 🙂
