I thought I’d do a quick post about what I’ve been baking recently 🙂 Since losing my job and lots of encouraging comments on my last personal post, I have started considering my own cake business. I have signed up to a proper cake decorating college course which starts in January which I’m very excited about! It will give me a bit more confidence in my decoration, as at the moment it’s a bit average compared to the professionals! I would love to make a bit of pocket money from doing what I enjoy, and everyone always seems to love my cakes.. even if they don’t look perfect! So thank you for your support everyone 🙂 I’m not expecting to be a millionaire or anything.. but something on the side maybe.
I did a little trial run of some simples cakes: a box of vanilla cupcakes and a Victoria sponge cake. These cupcakes were for a male so they’re blue and not too flowery! I have finally perfected making icing bows which makes me very happy! Bows are so cute! A bit more practice on making other things and hopefully I can make anything!
Also made this sponge cake for my Dad’s birthday. Its just with jam and buttercream but was very yummy! It was a bit of a fail though; I was testing my new larger cake tin but didn’t increase the mixture enough so it came out a little flat! But not too bad 😉 I did a pretty doily pattern on the top 🙂
I also made a pathetic rushed attempt at a Halloween cupcake! haha it looks like an octopus.. but I was more trying to do the spiders web pattern on the cupcake!

the cupcakes and victoria sponge look awesome, the spiders web would have been better if the colours were more intense cake shops sell colour powder that gives a huge colour pay off using a small amount of powder, i cant remember the name off the top of my head but its great 🙂
they look so yummy! wish I could eat one now, so hungry!

I really like the doily idea, I'll have to try that! Do you just sieve the sugar over the doily? You should def start up your own business, your cakes are lovely. I particularly like the bunting one you did recently. x
