Philosophy Fruitcake Mix Gift Set ♥

I’d never tried the Philosophy brand before, although I’d heard lots about it, until I won this amazing gift set on Twitter. I was pretty thrilled when I found out I won, because I was quite keen on trying this particular set. The contents itself sounds amazing, it contains three pieces: vanilla cake mix shampoo, shower gel & bubble bath, cranberry medley body lotion, and candied pecan hot salt body scrub. They sound delicious, but this cake mix ain’t for eating!
The set comes presented in a cute little festive tin with a red bow on top. I have to admit the products were a little bit smaller than I imagined, the price of the set was £24 so I was expecting them to be a little bit bigger! But I guess I’m just not used to expensive brands haha. As soon as I opened the lid of the tin I was overwhelmed with the really lovely sweet scent. Each product smells truly amazing and delicious!

The smells are quite strong, and judging by the ingredients listed on the products, a lot of additives/chemicals have gone into these to make them so heavily perfumed. They also come with a slightly worrying warning message ”Caution: Use only as directed, excessive or prolonged exposure may cause irritation to skin and urinary tract. Discontinue use if rash, redness or itching occurs. Consult your physician if irritation persists. Keep out of reach of children’. And I have read previous bloggers have had skin irritation and dryness from using these products.
Normally this kind of thing wouldn’t usually bother me, but as I have quite dry and often flaky skin anyway, I wouldn’t want to risk making it worse. I have used the products though, but only as a once a week treat, and I’ve not noticed any issues. But I wouldn’t like to use these products as part of ny daily routine, despite how much I might want to walk around smelling like a Christmassy cupcake.
The shampoo, shower gel, and bubble bath really does smell like my vanilla cake mix! I just use it as a shower gel, and make sure to avoid my, ahem, delicate regions! The cranberry scented body lotion is lovely and creamy to use, and the pecan body scrub is very heavily fragranced. It is a nice sugary pecan smell, but it’s a little bit strong for me!
Overall I think the set makes a very nice gift, especially for cake lovers, albeit a little bit pricey for the size of the products. I will carry on using this every so often as a nice pampering treat, but beware if you have sensitive skin, as these products may not be recommended for you.
This product was originally £24, and was in most of the half price sales but appears to be sold out online now, except on the Philosophy website where it is £15.

I love this brand too. I've been bought the odd bottle of shower cream etc over the years, their products smell so divine. I love their perfumes too. I think it's the rose one that smells amazing!!!

I love Philosophy and last Christmas my Mom bought me two of their gift sets. One being Candy Cane and another Sugar Plum Fairy. Whilst I've never had any bad rashes from using this product, I have noticed that if I use it quite a lot my eczema flares up on my hands and my chest gets a slight rash. I've started to use the shower gels as a once a week treat now. This being said, when I used Amazing Grace shower gel and the body lotion I was using them every day and I NEVER had an issue! Maybe it's just the heavily scented ones that cause problems… 🙁
