This weeks issue of Cake Decorating magazine comes with a free silicone mould in a cameo shape. The magazine costs £2.99 and I bought mine from Tesco. It is released weekly, and is in high demand! So grab your copy quick.
This issue shows you how to decorate, but not make, these mini cakes. Which is really annoying because I don’t know how to make mini cakes! If anyone knows, please leave a comment 🙂 Do I need a special cake tin to make them?
The guide is great though on how to decorate the mini cakes and how to use the cameo mould. I can’t wait to try using mine! It gives a lovely vintage look.
It also shows you how to decorate a two tier cake using the cameo, and also how to properly stack cakes. This is very helpful for beginner cake decoraters like myself, as I didn’t have a clue how to ‘properly’ stack tiered cakes before!
The cameo mould is quite large, and very firm, therefore I think it might be difficult to use if the fondant is too soft. I have read some expert tips though: if you can’t get the fondant out of the mould, try placing in the freezer for 30mins, or lightly using icing sugar or vegetable oil in the mould.

Oh my goodness, that mould is ADORABLE

They showed in an earlier issue how to make the cakes, maybe you missed it? You just make a regular sponge then use a round cutter on the cake and sandwich 2 layers together!
ahh thank you, thats very helpful x
this is so proffessional, I guess we cant bake the same at home 🙂
Uhh… I would love that magazine and that cute little mould:)
Oh wow SO getting this, thank you so much.

You can also use baked bean tins, or any food tin to make mini cakes, the proper ones are quite pricey 🙂
ooh thanks for the tip! x
