Travel: Welsh Holiday Cottage Winter Break

A few weeks ago I has the most amazing, relaxing short break at a lovely little place in Wales. The holiday let barn is called Trevellyon which is based only a few miles from Monmouth in South Wales. It is off the beaten track a little bit as it is on private farmland, and your neighbours are only the local farmers sheep! We were greeted by the lovely owners and led to the private accommodation which is separate from their main house, which was nice as it meant I didn’t feel like we were intruding upon their home.

The barn was absolutely stunning and adorable! The place is only very small, but perfectly adequate and it had everything we needed. The kitchen only had a small worktop space, but it was fully equipped with all fittings and goods needed including a dishwasher! The compact kitchen meant that it was ideal for just making light meals and it suited us just fine as we only made sandwiches and cooked a pizza.

The kitchen led onto the living room which was decorated in a very ‘cosy cottage’ style and I felt very at home! The sofas were so comfy and I definitely dozed off in front of the TV a few times (I blame the fluffy cushions and soft throws!). Then down a few little steps off the living room was the bedroom, which was again small but perfect for a short break. It was again finished very beautifully and there was a nice comfy king sized bed and storage space, mirrors etc so it had everything required and it looked out onto the beautiful Welsh countryside.

My favourite part of the barn had to be the bathroom! Just look at that beautiful painted roll top bath. It was so relaxing to have a nice long bath as I usually prefer a quick shower so I absolutely loved this. The giant towels and heated towel rail were an extra bonus too.. it was so lovely to be able to chill out! The location was ideal for exploring the local area, and it was so nice to come back to such a lovely place after a long day out walking.
The little barn was booked through holidaycottages.co.uk and it was very reasonably priced for such charming accommodation. I only stayed for a few nights so the price was reduced a little, but generally for 7 nights it is around £300, which I think is such excellent value for what is included. We had absolutely everything we needed (except wifi.. but 4G signal was super considering its isolated location) and the owners couldn’t have been more welcoming. I loved the drive out of the farm everyday because there were literally hundreds of sheep all over the place and they weren’t even fazed by the car.

I found this more amusing than I probably should have..
We spent our days visiting local towns including Monmouth and enjoying pub lunches. We also visited Symonds Yat which was stunning to see too, and we were pretty lucky with the weather as it was nothing but blue skies.
One evening I made a little picnic at home for dinner consisting of goats cheese focaccia bread, camambert, parma ham, salami, and feta stuffed olives.. yummy!
We also had our own little courtyard which overlooked the most beautiful green Welsh valley. I can’t get over how pretty the whole place was! I’d love to go back again and 100% recommend it!
