To Do List: Staying Productive During Lockdown

So.. things are pretty weird for everyone right now. The world is a mess and things are so crazy and no one seems to know what to do. Some (stupid) people are still carrying on as normal, some (amazing) people still have to go to work, and some of us are spending their days at home for the next few weeks.

To Do List: Staying Productive During Lockdown

If you’re like me and you now have a lot of time on your hands at home, I’ve come up with a few ideas to help keep you occupied. To be honest, this started out as a to do list for myself as I like to keep busy, but I thought I’d share it with you all in case you need a little lockdown inspiration too! I’m hoping that keeping busy will help me take my mind off things a little.

Of course, this is a horrible time, but we have to get through it one way or another, so I’d rather make myself useful. Although, if you prefer to relax or spend time just chilling out with your family/partner during this time, that’s fine too! I will certainly also be making time for to catch up with The Real Housewives of New Jersey, lounging on the sofa, and trying to relax. I feel like the last couple of weeks have really affected peoples mental health so make sure you take extra care of yourself during this time.

To Do List: Staying Productive During Lockdown

Here’s my ‘to do’ list of ideas that you can use to help stay productive during lockdown…

Home Maintenance & DIY

If you’re going to be spending the next few weeks at home, you may as well make sure your home gets a bit of love! Now is the perfect time to catch up on all those odd-jobs you might have had on your to do list for a while and not got around to doing.

  • Clean the windows
  • Use empty toilet rolls as curtain spacers (this is a Mrs Hinch hack – see here!)
  • Hang up those picture frames you’ve been putting off
  • Touch up any paintwork that’s been scuffed
  • Re-seal around the bath/shower
  • Got some paint? Paint a wall!
  • Polish brass front door furniture
  • Gloss the skirting boards/radiators

Garden Tidy Up

As we’re now only allowed to leave the house once a day, if you want some extra fresh air, it will have to be in your garden! Our garden is such a mess so a few weeks at home means I have no excuse not to tidy it up. It’s going to take a lot of work to get it up to scratch, but for now I’ll just try and clear it until the garden centres reopen!

  • Clean up any dead leaves and weeds
  • Pressure wash patio/path/driveway
  • Water indoor plants and outdoor flowers
  • Trim any overgrown hedges
  • Cut the grass
  • Clean up any rubbish that’s blown into front and back gardens

To Do List: Staying Productive During Lockdown

Deep Clean

This is probably the checklist I’m least looking forward to cracking on with! Cleaning is never something I look forward to doing, but if I’m honest I do quite like the feelings afterwards of having a nice clean house.

  • Remove any built up limescale around taps/shower heads
  • Go over all surfaces and ornaments with a feather duster
  • Clean the grout in the bathroom
  • Wash all towels and bathroom mats
  • Unclog that shower drain – yuk!
  • Clean the oven – I probably won’t do this but the thought is there…
  • Wash sofa covers and blankets/throws

Self Care

Not everything is all about housework and DIY. A few weeks off is the perfect time to give yourself a break and concentrate on self care! I am looking forward to not wearing any make up to give my skin a break, and the same goes for not using any heat on my hair. I’m going to look a bit of a mess but I won’t be leaving the house so who cares!

  • Deep condition your hair
  • Trim those split ends
  • Take a long bath and use up those bath bombs you’ve been saving
  • Have a DIY manicure and pedicure
  • Give yourself a full on at-home facial
  • Make use of all your rarely-used fancy bath/body/skincare products
  • Take your vitamins – I always forget usually so I’m going to make sure I take them now!
  • Eat more healthily – I’m using this opportunity to reduce my snacking and spending more time making healthy dinners using my slow cooker

Decluttering

Tidying up the clutter in your home can feel overwhelming if not done regularly, but being productive can really make you feel energised afterwards. If you’ve got a lot to get through, try just taking small steps – 15 minutes of decluttering per day can make a real difference.

  • Reorganise your kitchen cupboards and make use of forgotten tins
  • Clear out your wardrobe
  • Declutter the ‘stuff’ hiding under the bed and crammed into cupboards
  • Go through your toiletries and medicine cabinet
  • Create a dedicated ‘DIY’ drawer/box with screws, nails, tools, measuring tape etc.
  • Tidy up any surfaces where ‘stuff’ tends to gather
  • Go through old receipts/letters/statements and shred any unnecessary ones

Digital Clean Up

If you don’t fancy any physical work – clean up your digital life! This can be easily done using your mobile phone or laptop and it feels so much better afterwards. Plus, you can do it in bed (bonus!).

  • Go through your phone and delete unwanted photos to clear storage space
  • Delete all those old phone contacts you don’t need
  • Check your apps are all up to date and delete unused ones
  • Unfollow irrelevant accounts on social media
  • Unsubscribe from spam emails
  • Delete unwanted files from your downloads folder and Whatsapp media

Blogger Checklist

If you’re a blogger then you’re probably in a weird position right now wondering what to do. Some people might think that you shouldn’t be posting on your blog or social media given the current situation. In my opinion there’s no need to stop posting your content as long as you’re using common sense – just ensure it’s not distasteful or irrelevant. But if you don’t want to post, there’s plenty of other things you can be getting on with in the meantime.

  • Remove broken links – I use a plug in on WordPress called Broken Link Checker
  • Reply to any outstanding emails in your inbox
  • Write those blog posts you never got around to doing
  • Edit your photos
  • Create a content plan – there’s some great blog plan templates on Pinterest
  • Schedule social media posts – I use Hootsuite’s free plan
  • Take time to update your layout
  • Update your about me page and social media bios
  • Pin your blog posts onto Pinterest
  • Research SEO and update your posts

To Do List: Staying Productive During Lockdown

There’s plenty of other stuff you can do too like boring life admin stuff such as setting up a budget and sorting out your finances. But whether you plan to keep yourself busy, spend time with your family or just chill out, the important thing is that you’re staying home and keeping safe.

I plan to also do a bit of a spring clean but mainly relaxing at the moment as it’s been a stressful term at work! We’re now on a rota though as there’s not many children in school and I’m not in until Wednesday!

I’ve copied and pasted the blogger checklist into a word document because I definitely want to get round to a) uploading more but b) updating my blog and making sure it is more professional. I also am a big fan of doing a big decluttering online and offline! x

Love all of these ideas. I always feel so much better after I’ve decluttered and the digital clean up is a good reminder too. Thanks for sharing all of these.

  14. LOVE this post! You’ve definitely provided all of us with something we can put our efforts on during this weird period. I especially love the hint about using toilet rolls as curtain spacers, I’m so gonna try this out!
