On Twitter I won a She Said Beauty Box, which is a monthly beauty box containing 5 ‘deluxe sized beauty samples’. I’ve never really jumped on the beauty box subscription bandwagon as I don’t ever actually see any beauty products in these boxes. I’ve seen numerous ‘reviews’ showing the contents of the boxes, which usually contains anti wrinkle creams and moisturisers.
My assumption was partially correct, that there was not an actual cosmetic in my August She Said Beauty Box, and there was not actually anything I would buy or use. I really do think the idea is nice, but it would be a lot nicer if it actually was a beauty product box and not just a box of random end of line, unwanted stuff. Also, I really love the box it came in! 10/10 for packaging. They also added a bonus 6th product to the August box that I received.
So here’s what I got in my box:
Ugly metallic leopard print nail foils by Absolutely Flawless, RRP £1.90. These are so ugly I don’t even need to explain why.
A small bottle of No.4711 eau du cologne. The tiny bottle is cute, but I’ve no idea why they chose this product. It’s a classic (according to Mum) but it’s not very appealing to me.
Toothpaste I would think would come under ‘health’ rather than beauty, and this White Glo is not a very exciting addition to the box.
These Lehcaresor Papier Poudre powder papers are quite pretty, but not very useful for me. I don’t tend to get an oily face so I don’t need to mop it up.
A full sized Balance Me lip salve I think is nice, but not really very exciting. Everyone has tried and probably already owns many lip salves. The RRP of this is £12.
This is my favourite product from the box, Redken colour treatment. It’s only a small bottle but it’s something new that I’m interested in trying.
Overall I’m not very impressed, and I think popularity for beauty boxes is fading fast.
If you want to, you can subscribe for £9 per month (+£2.95 delivery).
Have you got a beauty box subscription or have you cancelled?

I never had one, but tried shesaid, it was good, but i never fell for the beauty box fad, i'd rather spend the £10-12 a month on a product i would actually want!

I used to get Glossy Box but ended my subcription as I thought it was just a bit pants. I'd rather save the money and get something I actually want x
you should see this month's apparently, total value of about £6, so glad I don't subsribe!

I've only ever tried Glossy & Carmine, Carmine was absolutely amazing. I've toyed with joining She Said but I think they're all as bad as each other after a few months. It's not terribly awful but the contents? surely doesn't even add up to what you would have paid? I'd rather save and spend on an item I truey want.

Minus the balm, but lets face it magazines give them away for £2 :/
This is exactly what I think when looking at beauty boxes "Wouldn't use, wouldn't use" etc which is why I've never taken one out, I think it's a nice idea in theory but they need longer to source better items. Personally I'd prefer a full make up box but the price of one of those would be astronomical! X
I remember my Nan having bottles of No.4711 eau du cologne on her dressing table
Totally agree that it looks rather disappointing! I received the Balance Me lip salve free with Glamour magazine MONTHS ago, so no doubts that the product itself isn't selling overly well.
Such a great (and pretty) blog by the way, just found you this morning via the FBL facebook page and soooo glad I did because we seem very similar in our likes! I found some really cute Cath Kidston-esque slippers last weekend that you just might love! I posted a few photos of them on the blog I'm just starting http://betweentodaytomorrow.wordpress.com/2012/10/01/weekend-buys-22nd-23rd-september-2012/
ah completely agree with you..I purchased the Harrods glossybox and cancelled straight away after feeling pretty much underwhelmed. most of the time its either a perfume sample which you could get at a beauty counter, skincare (which im quite fussy with) and half the time anti-aging..not my cup of tea im afraid xx
Hmm I see what you mean… I had toyed with the idea of subscribing to one but I definitely won't now! xx
Hi, i just cancelled my order as i wasn't impressed either, oh well they be perfect for xmas presents.
The toothpaste is a weird one! I'm still devoted to my GlossyBox, mainly as I love surprises in the post and there are genuinely products I've loved and repurchased in them. This SSB box doesn't impress me much at all – although I do love the Balance Me lip salve.
I get the Glossybox one and to be honest i've not been all that impressed with the products. I like the surpise of getting a box like this but it's usually a bit of a let down x
I agree! I cancelled my subscription after this august box – it was really disappointing the only thing I actually use is the lip balm but its not something I would repurchase so not very exciting! x

I'm a new subscrber to Birchbox which is very similar to this. I did a review of my September box on my blog 🙂 I actually quite liked the products I got. I mean not everything, but it was pretty interesting. I've used most of them. Go check it out if you want to 🙂

as much as the tooth paste is a strange addition to beauty boxes, I had the glowhite for carmine back in mrach I think, and I loved it! It's a fab tooth paste, really made my teeth whiter even though they aren't stained to start with! Hope you enjoy trying some of the products.
This doesnt look very impressive. I have had 2 glossyboxes and 3 carmines in the past and was never very impressed. I always just seemed to get perfume samples wrinkle cream or body lotion that smells of old ladies
Haha No.4711 eau du cologne is hilarious. Being German, I am more than familiar with it. My nan used it ever since I can remember. It's for grannies really. I don't know a single person under 70 years that uses it.
