It was my Mums birthday a couple of weeks ago so I decided to make her a proper birthday cake! I normally stick to cupcakes as they’re easier, but I attempted to fully ice and decorate this 8″ sponge cake. I enjoyed making it in such pretty colours and with a nice design. I decided to go for a shabby chic, girly design. It was my first ever try and writing with icing, so it’s not very neat! But overall I’m very pleased with the cake and it tasted as good as it looks!
I crumb coated the cake and then covered it in white fondant icing. I mixed up some blue and pink icing using gel colouring, and cut out the small triangles for the bunting. I then stuck them to the cake using edible glue, and added some polka dot detail. I’ve also managed to get better at making icing bows, which I think are so pretty! And I used my new blossom veiner cutter, which adds life-like lines to the flowers. The writing was quite difficult as my handwriting isn’t the best, but I just about managed.

This is lovely! I hope your Mum liked it :). I really makes me want to do more baking but I don't think I'd have to patient to decorate like that it looks amazing.
