As I mentioned previously, it was my birthday on Thursday, but unfortunately I was struck with my first ever bout of tonsillitis! As I’d never had it before I did fear that I was dying a little bit after Googling my symptoms (do not do this), but I’m feeling a little better now. Unfortunately, as I wasn’t feeling great on my big day, I missed out on the homemade lemon birthday cake and all the normal birthday fun as I stayed in bed without dinner.
I did however let my family treat themselves to all these beautiful goodies from Bettys to celebrate Yorkshire Day on my birthday (I was too poorly to enjoy them). Bettys is the world famous tearoom brand based in Yorkshire, and as well as their 6 tea rooms they also offer a range of tea time treats online too, for delivery throughout the UK. To celebrate Yorkshire Day I was sent a lovely personalised hamper of traditional Bettys goodies to try!
I got our dining room table all set up, using my new Regency tea set crockery pieces, and then accessorised with my cute new floral print doilies, paper plates, flag picks, and cupcake cake forks. I used the three tier cake stand to display the colourful flavoured macaroons, which came beautifully packaged in a little Bettys gift box. On the second tier were the stunning pink and yellow pastel coloured fondant fancies, which were delicious and sweet and decorated with cute little flowers.
And on the final tier were the Yorkshire ‘fat rascal’ scones. I had not heard of these before, but they are plump, fruity scones filled with currants and citrus peel, and then topped with with glacé cherries and almonds.. yummy! I also tried my first ever Florentine, which is like a chewy biscuit made with almonds, cherries on a dark chocolate base. The final treat of the day was these adorable little chocolate ganache bumble bees! These are made with chocolate sponge and then coated in milk chocolate ganache and decorated with royal icing and almonds. Aren’t they cute!
Thanks for the birthday treats, Bettys!
