Review: The Lazy Pig in the Pantry

I was recently invited to visit the newly refurbished gastro pub called The Lazy Pig in the Pantry in the market town of Chesham in Buckinghamshire. We were so lucky that the day we visited was the hottest weekend of the year so we chose to sit outside so we could enjoy the beautiful sunshine!

The pub features a mix of contemporary and traditional décor which brings the outdoors indoors with lots of stylish tropical accents, plant features and fancy accessories throughout the interior.

There is a variety of different places to sit, but my favourite part of the restaurant was the super stylish and ‘Instagrammable’ orangery and outdoor terrace area! I absolutely loved sitting in this super stylish space with marble tables, comfy seating, and gorgeous decor. I took so many photos because it was just so stunning! Just look at all the plants and beautiful furnishings!

They offer plenty to drink including a variety of classic cocktails, boutique spirits, a wine list, a range of world beers on tap and a few non-alcoholic concoctions too. As the sun was shining I thought I’d treat myself to one of the fancy cocktails from their drinks menu.

I went for the Bramble cocktail which is gin, chambord, blackberries, blueberries, sugar syrup and lemon juice.. yummy! A little bit later on in the afternoon I also tried the Masons lavender gin with lemonade which made for a lovely fragrant and sweet tipple.

The Lazy Pig in the Pantry offer a premium fresh seasonal menu alongside Josper oven cooked steaks, wood-fired pizzas and hearty Sunday Roasts. I couldn’t wait to get stuck in to the food! For starters I opted for their fancy bruschetta – creamy burrata cheese, torn prosciutto ham and marinated tomatoes on charred sourdough. I don’t usually like tomatoes but these were so fresh and really tasty mixed in with the rest of the dish. It was beautifully presented too and much more flavoursome than my usual restaurant order of cheesy garlic bread!

Even Gavin decided to order something new – he went for the smoked pork belly which came with a maple glaze, black pudding crumb and apple purée. The pork belly was so tender and delicious he was tempted to order it on a pizza for his main course!

For our main courses we both had the 8oz sirloin steak which is served with triple cooked chips, a smoked mushroom topped with tomato rarebit. All steaks at The Lazy Pig are cooked on over 400 degree coals in a charcoal oven to give a distinctive smoky flavour.

I enjoyed my steak very much – it was a lean yet juicy cut and was cooked to my preference of medium rare. My only comment here would be that there was no option to choose a sauce with the steaks. It would have been nice to have had a little bit of peppercorn sauce or even garlic butter with the steak I feel. Next time I’d definitely like to try one of their wood fired pizzas!

The dessert menu was full of sweet tasty treats! I chose the upside down baked vanilla cheesecake as I was curious about what exactly it was. Turns out it’s literally an upside down cheesecake covered in a delicious ginger and honeycomb crumb and a salted caramel sauce. It was SO good it’s making me hungry again now just thinking about it! I’m not normally a huge cheesecake lover but this was so yummy and really recommend it!

Gavin tried the brownie which was made from dark chocolate and hazelnut with plenty of caramel sauce and served with vanilla pod ice cream. It looked DELICIOUS and he assures me that it was soft, chocolatey and gooey… yum!

We had the most wonderful afternoon at The Lazy Pig in the Pantry and our lunch was absolutely wonderful. The food was made from really good quality ingredients and presented so nicely. Our waitress was also really lovely and helpful, even coming to Gavin’s rescue when he started choking on a big gulp of red wine which ended up with him squirting it out of his nose….

The restaurant and outdoor area is so gorgeous and if you’re big on taking pics for the gram then I’m sure you’ll just love it here! It’s so stylish and pretty – I would definitely recommend it for anything from a quick drink in the sunshine to a special occasion. Thank you for inviting us Lazy Pig and I look forward to visiting again soon!
