Another little baking post for you! I recently made these ‘Thank You’ cupcakes for a university student to give to her lecturers; one male and one female. She didn’t specify any particular design, she asked me to do what I think would be best. I think I possibly went a bit OTT with the girly ones.. that’s a lot of pink! But she seemed to love them! The male one’s were a bit more of a struggle, you could use generic hearts, butterflies and flowers really. So I stuck with nice simple blue stars! Boy cakes are boring…
But I was excited to have free reign on the girly cupcakes as I finally had a chance to try out my new moulds from Lakeland! I’d had my eye on these for ages but never got round to purchasing them as I didn’t have a specific occasion I needed them for. But then they asked me if I’d like to review something so I jumped at the chance to try them out!
I selected the Buttons mould as well as the Bows one. Perfect for pretty girly cupcakes! I used two different shades of bright pink sugarpaste icing to make them a little bit more interesting, and I think they turned out quite beautifully. I’ve wanted a button mould for ages so was thrilled to see that Lakeland now stock it for only £8.99. It comes with 14 different style buttons to make, and they were all very easy to use (except the heart one, I need more practice on that one!). My favourite is the big round decorative button, it’s beautiful! And there’s lots of other smaller ones to chose from too, which look really lovely all built up with various different ones.
The bows mould is £9.99 and comes with 4 different styles, with two of each. I used a couple of them on these cupcakes which you should be able to see in the photos. I found these easier to use than the buttons as they are much thicker so they’re less fragile so less likely to break or misshapen. They make perfect little bows and are so simple to make, and they’re the perfect size to go on top of cupcakes.
To use, Lakeland recommends dusting the mould with icing sugar (I use cornflour instead), and then roll out or press your icing in, then carefully peel back the mould. You can also place in the fridge for a couple of hours and the designs should then pop out with ease. The moulds are very flexible, which can take a bit of getting used to, but as it’s non-stick it’s fairly easy. It can be used for chocolate shapes as well as icing. I have a little girls birthday to bake for next month (can’t belive it’s March already!), and she’s requested three boxes of girly pink cupcakes, so I will be using these again very soon! I think they will be perfect for Mothers Day cupcakes too!

Too much pink on a cupcake!!! Never….no such thing can exist! ;))

These are so cool! I use molds like this for crafting with clay and resin, since I don't really bake. These turned out really nice 🙂
Love those moulds. I really want some silicone cupcake holders too.
How cute are those! 🙂
