This weekend I had a major spring clean of my bedroom, so I thought what a good time to do an updated room tour now it’s all nice and tidy! Not too much has changed since the last posts I did (here and here) in 2012 but I thought it would be nice to do a little catch up. I have sliding mirrored wardrobes so I have a bad habit of just hiding everything behind the doors and hoping no one opens them!
So I decided to pull out all the bric-a-brac and go through it all. I’ve ended up with a heap full of stuff that I need to flog at the next carboot sale (I’m so excited it’s almost carboot season!!). I made a killing last year selling bits and bobs for £1 each, I made £150+ from what I remember! So I cleared out a whole load of general ‘stuff’ and a few clothes too, and I gave my shelves and cupboard a good tidy up and reorganisation.
Here’s a few photos from around my room; I’ve tried to link in all of the products that I could find!
Bed: Ikea | Owl Cushion: Sasse & Belle | Desk: Ikea | Chair: Ikea
So here’s a general view of my bedroom, I’ve got a double bed which I love, and luckily my white desk fits in the gap perfectly. My desk isn’t usually this tidy! In the three shelves down the side I keep a box of my sample sachets, a box of false eyelashes, and then the bottom shelf is full of my favourite baking books.
The duvet cover I got from B&M ages ago, and the lap tray I use to keep my laptop on is from Dunelm. The chair from Ikea was originally plain wood, but I painted it and added some floral decoupage (see post here), but Merlin scratched it all off when he was a kitten! You can also just about see the Union Jack cardboard boxes sticking out under my bed. I keep all of my shoes in these boxes, which I picked up free from Lidl!
I love my two wall shelves, which I have crammed with various little pretty things I’ve picked up over the years! I have a thing about collecting vintage floral tea cups, so I’ve a few of those, as well as a bird cage Liam bought me when we first got together, and some cute wooden bunting. I painted the shelves white and then used some floral washi tape on the brackets (see post here). The picture frames are also just basic Ikea ones that I painted white and put pretty photos into.
Make Up Brush Holder: Ikea | Mug: Cath Kidston
On my desk I have a lovely pink desk lamp which I bought from Dunelm last year, and although very pretty, the fuse keeps blowing and DIY Dad has to keep replacing it! I also keep my make up brushes in the pretty white plant pot from Ikea, and I keep my cotton buds in a little pretty box. My old make up bag is just from Primark, I’ve probably been using this for a good 3 years!
I love the little wooden box with a brass anchor cut into it, I bought it from a vintage shop for a couples of quid. I use a big Cath Kidston mug to store my pens and scissors, and then a big floral wooden box from Dunelm for some of my most used make up bits. And that vanilla scented candle is my absolute favourite.. only £1 from Poundland! The big purple polka dot jug is from Laura Ashley last season, and these are the beautiful roses that Liam bought me for Valentines day!
Kindle Case: Joules | Floral Cube Boxes: Ikea
My wardrobe is the definition of chaos really, but I try to keep it in order. From the left is my skirts (there’s another couple of feet not in the photo!), and then blouses and jumpers, and then the whole right hand section is my mass of dresses. I’ve also got another wardrobe full in my dressing room… oops.
On the floor of the wardrobe I have a big spacious laundry basket that I keep my comfy clothes in (sweaters, jogging bottoms etc) and then a small chest of drawers. In there is just random stationary and electronic bits. The little white drawer set next to it was another DIY project (see here) that I prettified, and now the drawers stores my belts away, and I have all my paperwork in the gap underneath. The two very pretty boxes are a bargain at only £3.50 each from Ikea, and I use these to store my tights, winter socks and gloves etc.
And finally on the big shelf above the clothing I have all of my handbags and huge tubs of toiletries. My proper sewing machine is also stored up there, but I rarely make use of it. I keep all of my bags in those big pink baskets, and then the big pink hat boxes are full of shampoos, skincare, fake tan etc. They’re insanely heavy!
I’m a massive cake stand hoarder, I don’t even want to know how many I own! But these two are the ones I get most use out of, they’re both from the old Cath Kidston Spray Flowers range. I keep these on top of two little nesting tables which I sanded and painted white. I used them as general storage, as the tiered one is very useful for putting bits and pieces in, and I use the single tiered one to keep my hot hair tools on.
Jewellery Hooks: Sasse & Belle | Pink Tea Cup: Love From Rosie
I had a massive clearout of my jewellery, and sold a few necklaces for 60p each on Instagram last week, as my jewellery storage was getting too overcrowded! I use various things to keep my jewellery tidy.. mainly I use this tall lady one as she has lots of ‘arms’ to hand my necklaces on, and then I have a second lady shaped one.
I also have a big tall tree one, and an old vintage dressing mirror which I painted white. I also have a couples of cute glass ring holders, and two teacups to store little bits and pieces in. I also keep a lot of my rings on a wooden ‘Jewellery’ sign as it has lots of perfectly sized little hooks. The little wooden jewellery box I bought from a carboot sale for 10p and gave it a lovely make over! I gave my boring black TV a little Cath Kidston make over too (see here)!
And in the far right hand side of my wardrobe is my beauty section! It’s shelves were near to collapse due to the amount of weight I was putting on each one, so I’ve reduced that now and they’re much tidier. Underneath the shelves is my new wooden cupboard which I bought off eBay for £12 and then painted, and this stores some high heels and all of my books. Above that is three boxes which contain nail polish and make up.
And then the first shelf has on it all of my most used products, so hair spray, body lotion, deodorant etc. Also the big pink stripey hat box is full of my Soap and Glory stuff! The shelf above that has a big floral box and also another pink hat box, both full of hair dye and more toiletry stuff. I also have my perfumes lined up on this shelf. The top shelf is general stuff I don’t use very often, in that big black and white striped case is tonnes and tonnes of miniature products! And my favourite mini toiletries that I use when I travel are in easy reach for when I stay away from home.
So I think that’s it! I have a room jam packed full of stuff and this is how I try my best to keep it organised. I hope you liked this post!
