The staff there were really welcoming and friendly and were extremely helpful. We were seated in a cosy little booth and given our menus. For starters, we shared three small side plates; Italian Nachos, Crispy Squid, and Sweet Mini Chilli Peppers. The Nachos are little crispy fried ravioli bites stuffed with three cheeses and were very tasty. I also thoroughly enjoyed the calamari squid which came with crushed garlic and lemon mayo.
I was a bit undecided on what to order for my main, but in the end I settled for the Jamie’s Italian Burger, which is a British beef patty with mortadella, balsamic onions, tomato, melted smoked mozzarella, pickles and chillies, and I also had fries on the side. I did enjoy my burger, although I can’t say it was particularly special, but I do like their chips!
My Dad chose the Italian Steak Frites; chargrilled steak, spiced skinny fries, pickles and kale slaw. There wasn’t a weight on the menu so we weren’t sure how big the steak was going to be, and it was literally the biggest steak I have ever seen! It more than filled the plate, and it was perfectly cooked and I admit I was a little bit jealous that I didn’t pick this for myself! My Mum chose to order the Italian Style Calves Liver; which is served with mashed potato, smashed squash, pine nuts, raisins and onion gravy. Although it looked and smelt amazing, liver isn’t really my thing, although my Mum loved it!
We were pretty stuffed when it came to have a peek at the dessert menu, but we couldn’t really turn it down once we’d seen what was available. They have some great options, and we decided to share the Amalfi Lemon Meringue Cheesecake as well as the Epic Brownie. The mascarpone and lemon cheesecake comes topped with Italian meringue and is served with lemon curd and blackcurrants. The chocolate fudge brownie is served warm with vanilla ice cream as well as a sprinkling of caramelised popcorn.
Overall we had a really nice family meal together at Jamie’s Italian, and I can thoroughly recommend the steak!
