Review: The Wavendon Arms, Milton Keynes

The Wavendon Arms pub has recently reopened after an extensive refurbishment with a brand new menu and glamorous look! The Wavendon Arms is located just on the outskirts of Milton Keynes in the small village of Wavendon, which luckily is only five minutes away from me! I was invited to their press night to check out the stunning new stylish interior and to give their fancy new menu a try.

Review: The Wavendon Arms, near Milton Keynes

The Wavendon Arms has reopened as a premium gastropub, bar, and restaurant with an airy, beamed dining space and an upscale British and Mediterranean menu. It’s the perfect place to bring your friends if you’re looking for a stylish pub for relaxed drinking and dining. Upon arriving at the pub I eyed up the outside space and terrace area as it looked like a lovely place to have a drink on a summers afternoon!

But entering through the door is where the fun really begins! The interior styling oozes glamour and style and I love it so much that I’ve been inspired to redecorate our new living room with very similar theme! The whole look is slightly tropical with flamingo prints on the wall and palm leaves hanging from the beams, with lots of luxurious velvet furniture and gold touches. It’s super Instagrammable!

After sitting down in the lounge and bar enjoying a drink (they have some great gins!) we went to our table in the main restaurant area to have a look at their fabulous new menu. It’s globally-inspired, modern and everything is made with the freshest ingredients. There’s something for everyone on the menu with a huge selection of varied dishes to choose from including a vegan menu and meat free options.

For starters Gavin tried the Massaman chicken skewers which were served on with a pomegranate and coconut tzatziki dip. Gavin is quite a fussy eater so I wasn’t sure if it would be his type of thing (he’s more of a garlic bread for starters kinda guy!) but he absolutely loved the skewers and even the dip! They were nicely presented too and the perfect portion size for a starter. I went for the baked camembert sharer (I’m a creature of habit.. don’t judge me) which was served alongside rustic chutney and warm artisan bread. I always love camembert and especially loved the fruity chutney!

There are so many options to choose from on the menu that it was tricky to pick! I went for the ‘dirty cheeseburger’ which came topped with crispy bacon, lashings of cheese and burger sauce and a beef dripping dip on the side. I always love a good burger and this definitely passed the test! Although beware… it really is messy! It was also served with skinny fries and a pickle on the side.

Gavin chose to go for a steak with skinny fries which was served with a delicious caramelised onion, stilton & panko crumb tart. I wish they did these tarts as a starter.. they are seriously so good! They have a choice of steak sauces to choose from including peppercorn, béarnaise, chimichurri, porcini and black garlic or beef dripping sauce. The steak was cooked medium rare as requested, a good size and was nice and tender and full of flavour.

For dessert we decided to share the chocolate brownie (we were pretty full by this point!). The home-baked brownie was topped with Belgian chocolate sauce and served with bourbon vanilla ice cream. It was deliciously rich and gooey and the ice cream flavour went with it perfectly! I’d also recommend trying their melting chocolate and peanut bomb which comes with sticky toffee pudding, peanut butter cream, ice cream and hot salted caramel sauce!
