I was recently invited to eat, drink and get cosy at The Five Bells country pub in Weston Turville near Aylesbury. We took a drive down there on a rather wet and glum Sunday afternoon and were instantly welcomed into this cute typically English village pub.
The Five Bells has recently undergone a big refurbishment with a whole new look and updated menu so we were looking forward to seeing what they had to offer. The Five Bells was built in 1854 and oozes rural charm and rustic character. There are lots of exposed bricks, fireplaces, wooden beams, and antlers hanging on the walls which really gives it a cosy atmosphere.
I absolutely love visiting country pubs and having a nice bit of hearty British pub grub! And nothing beats a traditional hot roast dinner on a gloomy Sunday. We were in luck, The Five Bells offers a special Sunday menu which includes fabulous range of traditional roasts.
All of their roasts are served with fluffy Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, thyme roasted carrots, roasted parsnips, seasonal greens and as much gravy as you like! They also have a great selection of other main courses if you fancy something a little different.
I went for the roast beef duo which comes with your usual slices of roast beef alongside a slow-cooked short rib of beef. I’d never had short rib with a roast before so it made for a nice change! There was plenty of juicy meat and I even ordered a side of cauliflower cheese.. my favourite!
Gavin ordered the roast trio which is definitely the best option for meat lovers! It comes with roast beef, roast breast of turkey and pork belly with lemon & thyme stuffing wrapped in bacon. The portion sizes were very generous and no roast dinner is complete without lots of thick hot gravy!
As we were so full from our huge roasts we decided to share a dessert. We went for the Belgian chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and Irish liqueur ice cream which was rich and gooey and it was the perfect dessert for after our roast. Other tempting desserts include carrot cake cheesecake and a classic vanilla crème brûlée.. yummy!
I really think you can’t beat a traditional British roast dinner on a Sunday and the roast trio from The Five Bells is the perfect choice for those that want to try a bit of everything. The pub was so cosy with excellent service, rustic decor, and wonderful food – I wouldn’t hesitate to visit again!
Just enjoyed excellent fish and chips. Best we’ve had for a long time. Should be called Whale and Chips. Recommend
